With the intense competition in fundraising, it is surprising to find that managers holding the purse strings will not fork out the necessary extra dollars for substantively better writing that can land their proposals at the top of the huge plea heap.

Writing for Non-Profits and Small Business
I've been a writer and editor in the publishing and non-profit industries for about 15 years. Last year I formed Inkblot, a branding and copywriting company, which specializes in promotional work for arts non-profits. I am amazed at how few companies actually understand the concept of copywriting. Many confuse copywriting with copyrights. Others don't understand enough about the technical intricacies of promotional writing to realize an expert who does their writing can mean the difference between sure, ok, fine and wow, I never thought of that. This has prompted me to do a study of the promotional writing expertise among staffers who are asked to write for their company.
